Pianist Siyuan Li is a passionate, inspired recitalist, concerto soloist and collaborative artist. Winner of the first United States Virtuoso International Piano Competition in as well as the Ann Arbor Society for Musical Art Young Artist Competition, she was featured soloist with the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, the Oberlin Orchestra, and the Chautauqua Music Festival Symphony Orchestra. She represented the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C. and in performances at the Eastman School of Music, Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and the Oberlin College Conservatory. She has a special interest in the music of Ravel as well as in Charles Ives and has given recitals and lectures on the music of these composers, among others.
An energetic and resourceful teacher, fluent in English, Dr. Li served on the piano faculty of the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival. She is a member of the pretigious Khemia Ensemble, dedicated to the performance of new music. She maintains a private teaching studio and for the past three years has also taught University of Michigan piano students. In 2016 she was in residence at the Baltimore International Piano Festival and also gave concerts and master classes at the University of North Dakota, the China Ningxia University, the South China Normal University, Guangzhou University and China Qinan University. Upcoming engagements include the Avalock Music Festival, the Detroit New Music Festival, the Upper Austrian School of Music (Landesmusickschule Ansfelden) and the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Italy. She is Adjunct Professor Music at Jackson College, , and is also staff pianist for the University of Michigan Strings Department.
Born in Guangzhou, China, Dr. Li attended the Central Conservatory in Beijing where she received the “Award for Excellence” twice. She holds BM degrees in Piano Performance and Vocal Accompanying from Oberlin Conservatory, MM degrees in Piano Performance and Chamber Music from University of Michigan, and recently took her DMA at University of Michigan. She has performed in master classes with artists such as Lang Lang, Wu Han, Rebecca Penneys, Nelita True, Matti Raekallio, Alexander Korsantia, Joseph Kalichstein, Stephen Drury, Inon Barnatan and John Perry, who called her “an amazing talent.” Her teachers include Arthur Greene, Monique Duphil, Pingguo Zhao and Yuan Ling.
